What do Scott Morgan, Judge Little, and Tiger Woods have in common?
When they show up, everybody else is playing for second place. At least it sure seems that way in the Ed Lewis Memorial Day Tournament.
Morgan and Little won their fourth consecutive Ed Lewis tournament by three strokes over the teams of Reid Davis and Winston Powell and John Rae and Jim Green Monday afternoon at Northwood Country Club.
Morgan and Little finished with an 18-under par 195. Davis and Powell and Rae and Green both finished 15-under at 198.
Monday's round was played with an alternate shot format after playing four-ball and scramble the first two days.
It was shaky going for the eventual champions in the early holes.
Morgan and Little's triple bogey 6 on the par-3, 178-yard, second hole gave Davis and Powell a quick two-stroke advantage. The eventual winners birdied Nos. 3 and 5, while Davis and Powell bogeyed Nos. 4 and 5 to put Morgan and Little back on top by two strokes. They would not trail again.
Morgan and Little made the turn with a two-stroke lead.
Reid and Powell shot a 3-over 74 Monday to drop into a tie for second place with Rae and Green, who had the championship flight's only sub-par round Monday with a 1-under 70.
Rae and Green started the day five strokes off the lead but got to within a single stroke with a birdie on No. 14, a 581-yard par-5. A bogey on No. 15, along with a birdie by Morgan and Little on No. 17 ended any further comeback hopes.
Bubba Hampton and Doyle Bryan finished fourth with a 202, while Buddy Davis and Scott Davis placed fifth with a 203. Don Bounds and Sidney Bowers shot a 205 to finish sixth in the 68-team field.
