COLUMBUS, Ohio Mississippi State's Matthew Brinson has been cursing Bill Davis Stadium because of all the home runs it surrenders. No more. Brinson drove in all the Bulldogs' runs with a pair of homers as they beat Delaware 4-3 Saturday in the winners' bracket final of the NCAA Regional. The Bulldogs face Kent State in the finals today. Kent State defeated Delaware 12-11 with two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday night. Earlier, Kent State eliminated host Ohio State 9-8 in the losers' bracket final to advance.
NEW ORLEANS The Ole Miss Rebels were eliminated from the New Orleans Regional late Saturday night with a 16-7 loss to Oklahoma State. Earlier in the day, Ole Miss stayed alive in the postseason as Ronnie Goodwin tossed a three-hitter and the Rebels knocked Southern University out with a 10-2 win. Second-seeded Ole Miss (39-23-1) saw its season end while the Cowboys advance to the finals today against Tulane.

STARKVILLE Eric Dubose pitched a complete game on just three days rest as Mississippi State defeated Washington 4-3 in the NCAA Mideast Regional final Monday to advance to its sixth College World Series. After Chris Magruder led off Washington's ninth inning with a solo home run, DuBose struck out the next two batters before getting cleanup hitter Ryan Soules to fly out to center to end the game. DuBose, who didn't throw a complete game during the regular season, also went the distance in the Bulldogs 8-5 victory over Ohio State in its regional opener Thursday. He threw 113 pitches in the title game, with 10 strikeouts and one walk.
Randy Pool and Earl Aycock, Jr., who led after two rounds, shot a 71 Monday during the Scotch phase of the tournament to win the 1997 Northwood Country Club Memorial Day Golf Tournament. Pool and Aycock finished the three-day tournament with a 196. Six shots off the pace in second place at 202 was the team of Alex Weddington and Johnny Dement (130-72). Dubby Davis and Tony Polizzi (127-77) finished up in third place with a 204.

Meridian High left John Moss Field thinking Game 1 of the Class 5A championship series was incomplete. Early today it was ruled differently. This morning the Mississippi High School Activities Association ruled the game complete after four innings, Meridian football coach and athletic director Mac Barnes said. Tupelo is credited with a 5-3 victory and a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Tupelo led Meridian 8-3 and was battling in the top of the fifth with two on and two out when game officials called for a rain delay.

Look for big things out of the Enterprise Bulldogs this fall. The Bulldogs were impressive in their recent play in the Clarkdale spring jamboree taking an 18-18 draw against West Lauderdale and beating Clarkdale 24-6.
One of the reasons behind Enterprise's surge is linebacker/wingback Daveon Dixon. Dixon is a rising senior and says the Bulldogs will be an improved team.
