Fallen veterans will be remembered on Memorial Day with a tribute on the Constitution Avenue side of the Lauderdale County courthouse at 10 a.m. Monday.
The ceremony will begin with a welcome from Ken Storms, Meridian's chief administrative officer and a former commander of Training Wing 1 at Naval Air Station Meridian.
The U. S. flag will be at half-staff and a flag-draped caisson will be dragged by a veteran. Eagle Scout Jay Everett will lead the Pledge of Allegiance. As part of the memory of America's war dead, family and friends will place flowers at the foot of the memorial wall at the courthouse.
Capt. Jeffrey Dickman, NAS Meridian's commanding officer, will be the main speaker. A laying of wreaths will follow, along with a 21-gun salute by the Navy Honor Guard.
Sponsors of the event include the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 79, Post 3996 and their auxiliaries; the American Legion, Post 21, Post 125, Post 257 and their auxiliaries; 40/8 Voiture 989; Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 56 and its auxiliary; and Fleet Reserve Association, Meridian Branch No. 264 and its auxiliary.
