Forty-three Clarkdale High School seniors received diplomas Tuesday during the school's commencement exercises.
The class motto, chosen by the student body, is: "Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising each time we fall." The class flower, chosen by the seniors, is the crimson rose.
The class salutatorian and valedictorian were introduced by Jan Miller, principal of Clarkdale Attendance Center. She described the class as "a unique group of survivors."
Salutatorian Ashley Nicole Satcher of Clarkdale gave the welcome. Satcher is the daughter of Johnny and Tina Satcher; she plans to attend Meridian Community College in the fall.
Valedictorian Phyllis Michelle Scott of Clarkdale gave the farewell address for seniors. Scott, the daughter of Leslie and Cindy Scott, also plans to attend MCC where she will be on the cheerleading squad.
Scott plans to major in mathematics and pursue a degree, either in secondary education or structural engineering.
Also participating in the program was graduating senior Matthew Ryan Patterson, who delivered the invocation.
School guidance counselor Holli Cobb delivered the recognition of scholarships and high school principal Charles King presented awards.
Graduates recognized for highest honors were: Cody Lynn Ellis, Ashley Nicole Satcher, Phyllis Michelle Scott, Courtney Lynn Stockman and Desarae Lynn Strickland.
Graduates with highest honors are those students who had a grade point average of 3.75-4.0.
Graduates recognized with honors were: Tamara Shavon Brown, Brandi Lace Clair, Amy Elizabeth Griffin, Pondra Tiaira Lewis, Kathryn Alanna McKissack, Matthew Ryan Patterson and Bradley Wayne Smith.
Students who graduated with honors had a grade point average of 3.50-3.74.
Cody Lynn Ellis was selected as Clarkdale High School's Star Student this year. Star Students are selected from each high school based on academic excellence, ACT scores and scholastic averages.
