Parkview crew leaves for Washington today

Twenty-one Parkview Elementary fifth-graders and 10 parents are headed to Washington today by way of Amtrak.
William Carey, a parent and organizer of the week-long trip, said he set out to make it happen because his daughter, Charla, inspired him.
Others who worked on organizing the trip through Federal City Tours of Alexandria, Va., were Carol Sue Wiggins, Parkview teacher, and parents Edna Fletcher and Leigh Gillespie.
The students have been studying Washington for several weeks in preparation of the trip. Students have made posters and written reports on various landmarks they will visit.
The students are scheduled to arrive in Washington on Tuesday morning and return Friday afternoon. Sights scheduled on the tour in and around the capital are:

Holocaust Museum.
Lincoln Memorial.
Vietnam Memorial.

Wednesday
The Capitol.

The Supreme Court.
Arlington National Cemetery.
Iwo Jima Memorial.
Drive by viewing of Washington National Cathedral.
A drive through Georgetown.
Jefferson Memorial.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial.
Thursday
Mt. Vernon and Old Town Alexandria.
A picture stop at the White House.
Museum of American History.
Museum of Natural History.
