Raiders tap Adams

When longtime Lamar School head baseball coach Ronnie Key stepped down after 10 years on the job last week, the Raiders didn't have far to look for their next baseball boss.
Shane Adams, a former assistant coach at the University of West Alabama and the University of Montevallo, was named to the post next week.
Lamar had hired Adams two weeks ago to serve as Key's assistant, as well as teach in the science department and serve as an assistant junior high football coach.
Adams, who served as an assistant at UWA from 1994 to 2000 under former head coach Mark Smartt, approached Land about possible employment in April.
Adams and his Raiders will have their hands full next year as they will be playing in MPSA AAA District 2 along with such powers as Central Private (La.), Parklane, Adams County Christian School, Hillcrest, Jackson Prep and Lamar.
Adams is aware of that, but is ready for the challenge.
Adams said he was planning to meet with the team at the Lamar School Cafetorium at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and hoped to put together a summer league team beginning in June.
While most of his professional experience has been on the college level, Adams said he is not expecting any problems relating to players at the high school level.
