Cheerleading squads throughout the state were in Meridian on Saturday learning techniques that could help them for upcoming team camps this summer.
The Universal Cheerleading Association provided the instruction for the high school and junior high stunt clinic held at the Meridian Community College soccer field. The event was sponsored by Rush Foundation Hospital.
Jamie Jordan, the territorial manager for UCA in Arkansas and Mississippi, said the stunt clinic is one of three UCA is doing in Mississippi.
Part of the instruction besides cheerleading skills was to promote women's fitness and health.
The cheerleading squads were directed by a large and peppy UCA staff.
Two of the instructors were Brad Jones and Keith Williams.
Jones works full-time for UCA as a cheer instructor. He was a cheerleader for the University of Alabama.
Williams currently cheers for the University of Arkansas. This is only his third year to be involved in cheer-leading. He played baseball and ran track in high school.
One of those trying to learn the techniques was Northeast Lauderdale cheerleader Emily Breland.
