For the second time this weekend, Stevie Daniel delivered a two-out game-winning single in the ninth to lift Tennessee to a 5-4 win over Ole Miss on Sunday. The win gave the Volunteers (38-14 overall, 16-11 Southeastern Conference) a three-game sweep of the SEC series. Daniel, who laced a single to left with two outs in the bottom of the ninth Friday to give Tennessee a 5-4 win in the series-opener, hit a bloop single to center to score Justin Parker on Sunday.
Mark Carter, touched for a run and four hits in the first inning, shut out Mississippi State the next eight frames Sunday to lead Alabama to a 7-1 win over the Bulldogs. After Matthew Brinson's RBI single gave State a 1-0 lead in the first, Carter (7-3) gave up just four hits en route to his third complete game performance. He struck out five and did not walk a batter. Kavonski Chatman singled off Bulldog starter Brandon Medders in the third to open a career-best 3-for-3 performance and later score the tying run on a double by Casey Lambert. Alabama scored single runs in each of the next three innings. A three-run eighth-inning blast by Scott McClanahan, his fourth of the year, closed out the game's scoring.

ENTERPRISE Greg Maddux and John Smoltz couldn't have done it better themselves. Enterprise pitchers Jon Chancelor and Teague Burchfield, both seniors, fired back-to-back shutouts Tuesday afternoon, earning the Bulldogs a two-game sweep of West Lincoln in a second-round playoff matchup. Chancelor dominated the opener, giving up just two hits and striking out seven in the Bulldogs 10-0, five-inning victory. Not to be outdone, Burchfield surrendered only six hits and struck out eight in a 4-0 win to advance Enterprise to the 1A semifinals.
The Meridian Brakemen now have no chairman of the board. Tom Coats has served as the team's chairman of the board since the team's inception, but he stepped down Monday night at the team's board of directors meeting, Brakeman general manager Gary Saunders said. As chairman, Coats served as the team's voting representative at all Big South league meetings. That duty has now been turned over to Saunders, and he got his feet wet by attending his first meeting Tuesday night.

HATTIESBURG Bill Selby hit his 22nd homer of the year and six errors led to six Southern Mississippi runs as the Golden Eagles defeated Alabama-Birmingham 7-4. Selby connected for his second homer in two nights after going ten games without one. He is now one short of tying the school record set by Fred Cooley in 1989. Selby also had his 50th career double in the fifth inning. The hit left him one shy of tying Todd Nace for the school's career double record.

Lindsay Ellingsworth
The undisputed MVP of the 2002 Gulf South Conference Women's Softball Tournament was Valdosta State's Lindsay Ellingsworth.
The Temple City, Calif., senior helped lead Valdosta State to only its second GSC Softball crown in school history and its first since 1993. The Lady Blazers defeated three-time champ Alabama-Hunstville 7-6 in the finals on Sunday at Northeast Park.
Ellingsworth had a big hand in leading the Lady Blazers. First, she batted a tournament best .588 (10-for-17). She then went 3-0 as a starting pitcher, including wins over Delta State (11-3), and Huntsville twice, 7-3 and 7-6.
