MARTIN, Tenn. The University of West Alabama rodeo team traveled to the University of Tennessee-Martin last weekend to compete in the final regular season event of the year. Once again, the Tiger Wranglers shined, with the women winning another contest and the men coming in second. Again, it was Ericka Register leading the women's team with a first-place finish in the breakaway roping long go (2.8). She also took first place in the goat tying short go, fourth in the long go and finished second in goat tying average (14.6). Register also finished second in the barrel racing average with a combined time of 28.37. At the end of the event, she was presented with the regional all-around title and the title of champion barrel racer.

It didn't take long to determine what kind of game Friday's second-round playoff contest between East Marion and Southeast Lauderdale would be. East Marion's Henry "Tadpole" Nelson hit the first pitch of the game for a home run and the offensive fireworks began, as the two teams combined for six home runs, 26 hits and 25 runs. When the dust had cleared, East Marion had a 15-10 victory and Southeast was eliminated. The biggest culprit in the offensive explosion was not inept pitching by both teams, but a 25-mile per hour wind blowing out to dead center, which turned routine fly balls into home runs and bloop hits into off-the-wall doubles. Even infield pop-ups became adventures, causing infielders to circle under the ball before making the catch.
ENTERPRISE Teague Burchfield was anything but rusty. Thanks to rain and testing, Enterprise and Puckett took a week off between games in its first-round playoff series, and both teams had to guard against mistakes from the long layoff. The Bulldogs made few mistakes and claimed a 10-3 victory to sweep the series two games to none. Burchfield gave his defense few opportunities to flounder, as the Enterprise starter gave up just three runs on four hits. He fanned four and walked one in seven innings of work.

Baseball, the way it should be played. Delgado Community College versus Meridian Community College for the Miss-Lou Conference championship, a series that has seen some heated games in the past saw two more played Saturday at MCC field. The Eagles got an RBI-single in the bottom of the seventh to score Randy Broome to give MCC a 2-1 victory in the first game while No. 7 Delgado took the second game 5-4 despite Dennis Hobson's no-hit performance through five and a third innings.

Chuck Driesback is the new defensive co-ordinator for the Ole Miss Rebels football team. Driesbach was in Meridian on Tuesday night as part of the Ole Miss Red Blue Caravan.
Driesbach, along with Ole Miss head basketball coach Rod Barnes and Ole Miss Chancellor Dr. Robert Khayat, spoke at the East Mississippi Alumni group meeting.
Driesbach comes to Ole Miss from Texas Christian. Before that he spent four years at Kansas State, along with stops at Western Michigan and Pitt.
Coming to Ole Miss was an easy decision.
