The Meridian Community College men's basketball team will be a young one next year, but coach George Brooks says it won't take long for his new bunch of Eagles to get experience.
Brooks announced his first 10 signees on Wednesday afternoon and added that at least one more was to come. Three players are returning off of last year's team.
Among the new players Brooks will be counting on, is 5-foot-9 point guard J.R. Willis, a junior college transfer who prepped at St. Stanislaus High School.
Brooks, who is heading into his fourth season as the head coach at MCC, is also counting on strong play from 6-foot-8 center Kenny Boyd of Kemper County High School, as well as 6-foot-5 forward Willie Powers of Vicksburg High School.
The Eagles have also signed Mecose Todd, a 6-foot-1 guard, who averaged 22 points and six rebounds a game for Lafayette (Ala.) High School and was named the state's Class 3A Player of the Year.
Other guards signed by MCC are 5-foot-9 point guard Jamal Edmonson of Jeff Davis High School in Montgomery, Ala., and Quad Griffin of Meridian High School.
Dewayne Jackson, a 6-foot-6 center from Vicksburg High School is expected to add depth inside, while 6-foot-5 Marcus Melvin of Northwest Rankin High School and 6-foot-4 forwards Rufus Molden of Moss Point and Germaine Winfield of Meridian are also expected to contribute.
