DECATUR Left-handed pitchers can be devastating. That was never more true than Tuesday in Newton County Academy's Mississippi Private School Association Class A playoff doubleheader with University Christian Academy. Flames southpaw Jonathan Van Every dominated game one, giving up just two hits and fanning 12 in UCA's 4-1 victory. Lefty Toby Pinson then took the hill for the Generals, giving up only four hits and two runs in Newton's 8-2 win in the night cap. Pinson walked three and struck out five, as he snapped UCA's 13-game winning streak. The two teams play the rubber match of the three-game series Thursday at Jackson's Mississippi College.
