The search for a new athletic director at Ole Miss could be over much sooner than originally anticipated.
That was the word from Ole Miss Chancellor Dr. Robert Khayat here Tuesday night at the Ole Miss District VII Alumni Club's Red Blue Caravan.
Khayat said the application process will be wrapped up by the end of the week.
Ole Miss was able to move quickly because all of the Equal Opportunity requirements had been met. The need to fill the position became necessary when John Shafer resigned the athletic director's post at Ole Miss effective April 15. He had been in the post since July 1, 1998.
Khayat did confirm Tuesday that one of the applicants for the job is former Ole Miss athletic director Pete Boone.
Boone could be on the short list because he has many of the qualities Khayat said he is looking forward.
