MCC splits two games

TUSCALOOSA Jake Bell ripped a two-run double and Brad McKee followed with an RBI double to spark Meridian Community College to a six-run sixth inning on the way to an 8-5 win in the first game of a doubleheader with homestanding Shelton State Community College on Wednesday.
Shelton rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win the second game 7-5.
The split puts MCC at 22-25 on the season, thanks to the addition of a pair of forfeit wins over the University of West Alabama Junior Varsity team.
MCC returns to action Friday when the Eagles travel to the campus of UWA in Livingston to take on Jefferson (Ala.) State Community college in a doubleheader at 5 p.m.
Damien Givens (1-6) was the winning pitcher for MCC in the opener, while Nate Sanders ripped his 10th homer of the season. McKee ripped a triple and double for the winners, while Billy Porter and Bell had a single and double each and Scarbrough added a two-bagger.
McKee had two singles in the second game for MCC, while Porter ripped a double.
