Meridian's newest employee, Michelle Pearson, is proud to announce the game of tennis will begin to grow in the upcoming months here in Meridian. The city just received a grant from the United States Tennis Association, to promote tennis in the Meridian/Lauderdale County area.
The USTA Southern Section awarded a grant to Meridian to hire a Community Coordinator to promote tennis in and around the city of Meridian.
The grant was given by USTA Executive Director, Ann Brady of Jackson.
Pearson will work hand-in-hand with the pro from the Northeast Complex, Dave Trebisky, to promote and improve the play of tennis.
With the grant, Pearson will also be able to work with area high school teams, the general public, and the recent NJCAA Region 23 Runner-Up Meridian Community College Lady Eagles.
Pearson said Meridian was chosen from a large number of cities for the grant and it is the only city known to date to recieve the grant.
With the grant, new things are popping up at the Northeast Tennis Complex to promote mature players and beginning players to enjoy the sport.
Pearson said the event is scheduled for May 4 at the Northeast Complex and people of all ages and skills are invited to the event.
