Game times changed for Bama-OM series

The West Lauderdale Youth Association will be holding a steak dinner Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot in Collinsville. The dinner will include an eight-ounce ribeye, baked potato, cole slaw and bread and will cost $6 per plate.

UA's Laird takes softball honor
The Southeastern Conference office has announced that University of Alabama two-time All-American Shelley Laird was named fast-pitch softball SEC Player of the Week.
Laird, who became the 14th player in NCAA history to reach the 1,000 strikeout mark, posted a 3-0 record in four games while striking out 31 batters in 23 innings and posting a 0.30 ERA. Laird is a two-time recipient of the award this season and has been named SEC Pitcher of the Week a total of five times throughout her career.
Laird currently ranks 14th on the NCAA all-time strikeout list with 1,001. She is 37 away from passing Kelly Shipman of Maryland for 13th. With her victory in Game three over Ole Miss she moved into the Top 10 in NCAA history in wins with her 112th, which ranks ninth.

SEC honors Ole Miss' Radu
OXFORD Mira Radu, a junior on the Ole Miss women's tennis team has been named to the All-SEC second team as the 2002 women's tennis awards were announced Wednesday night at the SEC Tournament banquet in Columbia, S.C.
This marks Radu's first selection to the All-SEC team. Currently ranked No. 13 in the nation, Radu has enjoyed an excellent year, posting a 32-13 overall record, 13-6 at No. 1 singles. She has won 13 of her last 19 matches dating back to the fall. Of her 13 dual match wins, 11 have come in straight sets.
The Lady Rebels (11-9, 4-7) open up play in the SEC Tournament today at 10 a.m. against the No. 9 seed Alabama. The winner of that match plays top-ranked Georgia Friday in the quarterfinals.

USM finishes ninth in tourney
JONESBORO, Ark. The Southern Miss men's golf team shot a final round 308 team score in the third and final round of the 2002 Arkansas State Indian Classic here Tuesday to maintain the number nine spot the team held after Monday's first two rounds of the 54-hole event. Head coach Steve Johnson's team finished the event at 299-298-308-905.
Host Arkansas State ( 290-290-289-869) fought back from seven strokes down to win by a stroke over first day leader, South Alabama (288-285-297-870). Missouri (291-295-286-872), Arkansas-Little Rock (299-297-289-885) and North Texas (291-297-301-210) round out the top five finishes.

Shreveport hosts SWAC events
Shreveport will host the remainder of the SWAC Spring Championship schedule, as the Southwestern Athletic Conference will partner with the Shreveport Regional Sports Authority to host the championships in the sports of men's and women's tennis, track and field, softball and baseball.
Competition begins this week with men's and women's tennis championships today through Saturday.
The women's championships will be held at the Cockrell Tennis Center, and the men's championship will take place at the Southern Hills Tennis Center.
Track and Field, softball and baseball will begin competition and will take place May 1-5 at several Shreveport venues. Softball will be played at Cargill Park, baseball will be at Centenary College while track and field competition will take place at Caddo Parrish Stadium.
