ALTON J. ALAWINE
Retired, Internal Revenue Service
Services for Alton J. Alawine were held Saturday at Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Carl Stephens and John Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery.
Mr. Alawine, 85, of Meridian, died Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at The Specialty Hospital of Meridian. A Methodist, he was a graduate of George Washington University. He held a Doctor of Law degree and was retired from the Internal Revenue Service after 35 years.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Alawine of Meridian; a son, David Alawine of Spotsylvania, Va.; a stepson, Kenneth Moody and his wife, Josie, of Vicksburg; two daughters, Deborah Hahn of Richmond, Va., and Sheila Hutchens of Alexandria, Va.; a stepdaughter, Diane Forbes and her husband, Frank, of Sherwood, Ark.; 25 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Will Alawine and his wife, Barbara, of Vernon, Ala.; two sisters, Kate Alawine and Ellen Stephens and her husband, the Rev. Carl Stephens, all of Collinsville; and former stepchildren, Blaine Toney of Spotsylvania, Terry Toney of Clear Creek, W.V., and Donna Smith of Dale City, Va.
He was preceded in death by three sons, Russell Alawine, Alton Alawine Jr., and an infant son; and a brother, J.T. Alawine.
Pallbearers were Malcolm Threatt, Billy Alawine, Max Alawine, David Sessums, Ronnie Alawine and Larry Joyner.
IMA MOORE PACE

Services for Ima Moore Pace will be held today at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Church with the Revs. Randy Caldwell, James Snowden and Fred Frazier officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Pace, 93, of the Bailey Community, died Friday, April 12, 2002, at Beverly Health Care Center. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Nicholson Norris and her husband, A.V., of Meridian; four sons, Jimmie Pace and his wife, Bessie, of Hernando, Milton Pace and his wife, Joyce, of Meridian, Billy Pace and his wife, Lou, of Forest and Jack Pace and his wife, Mary Lou, of Bailey; a sister, Pauline Harbour of DeKalb; a brother, Elmon Moore of Meridian; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Moore of Bailey; 17 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several other friends and loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband, L.D. Pace; two daughters, Wilma Orgeron and Sara Caldwell; a son, James Roy Pace; two grandsons, Mike and William Pace; and two granddaughters, Betty Pace and Maurine Bateman.
The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
Pallbearers will be Jackie Pace, Wayne Hurtt, Larry Bateman, Johnny Cook, Jeff Pace and George Ranager.
Honorary pallbearers will be Skip Sockwell, Tommy Hurtt, Scott Pace, Calvin McMillan, Doug Mahan and Bernice Davis.
Visitation will be held 30 minutes prior to service at the church.
JOE LEWIS
Retired military
QUITMAN Services for Joe Lewis will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Rose Hill with the Revs. John West and Keith Boggan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wright's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lewis, 79, of Rose Hill, died Friday, April 12, 2002, at Heartfelt Hospice in Meridian. He was a retired Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a cattle farmer and also worked with Lockheed at the Air Guard Base in Meridian and with project engineers in Jasper County.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Lewis; a daughter, Paula Jo DuBose and her husband, Richard, of Rose Hill; a granddaughter, Traci Decker of Brandon; a grandson, Sam DuBose of Rose Hill; and two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Drew Decker of Brandon.
Pallbearers will be Vernon Decker, Glen Lewis, Johnnie Chatham, Frankie Morgan, Jimmy Chatham and Marvin Lewis.
Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
