2nd Annual Cardiac Arrest set for Wednesday

The American Heart Association, Rush Foundation Hospital and The Specialty Hospital of Meridian are fighting heart disease and stroke by playfully arresting people.
Anyone arrested by the three organizations will be asked to raise $300 in "bail money" and donate it to the AHA on Wednesday during the 2nd Annual Cardiac Arrest fund-raiser.
The event is set for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Kahlmus Auditorium on the Mississippi State University-Meridian Campus. Last year's event raised more than $33,000 for the AHA to use in research and education.
Amy Ford, public relations director for Rush, said organizers were pleasantly surprised with the amount of money raised last year.
About 500 names have been submitted as potential "arrestees." They have already been notified and asked to bring their "bail money" to MSU-Meridian Campus.
As an added incentive, participants and the public can take part in several health screenings including blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol tests.
For more information about Cardiac Arrest, or to provide the name of a potential "jail bird," call the American Heart Association at 693-4315.
