Long-time assistant takes over at Quitman

QUITMAN After 21 years as an assistant, James (Jimmy Don) Holloman will be the new man in charge of the Quitman High School football team.
Holloman will replace Charles Faulkner who announced his retirement from the Quitman program in December after leading the Panthers to their best season in school history.
Quitman won the Division 5-4A championship and finished the season with a 9-3 record. It marked the first time Quitman had qualified for the Mississippi High School football playoffs. The Panthers then beat defending champ McComb in the first round before falling to 4A finalist South Pike in the quarterfinals.
Holloman is looking forward to keeping the Panthers successful on the gridiron.
I've been an assistant for something like 21 years, so I think I'm ready for the challenge of it. I'm going to try and use the things I've learned," said Holloman who served as Faulkner's offensive coordinator.
He has been at Quitman for the past four years. He previously spent five years at Quitman during the early 1980's. He has also coached football and baseball at Marion Institute in Alabama, along with jobs at Newton, Northeast Jones and Laurel. He was the head baseball coach at both Northeast Jones and Laurel.
Holloman said the Panthers will have to work hard to replace several leaders off the defensive line. They include Division 5-4A Linemen of the Year in Dustin May.
Quitman has helped its program by committing to the weight room. They one of the strongest power-lifting teams in the state.
The Panthers will begin spring practice later this month. They are scheduled to play on April 29 in the Clarkdale Jamboree.
