NEW YORK If Buzz Peterson's tenure at Tulsa only lasts one season, he made sure it would be a successful one. Marcus Hill scored 24 points as the Golden Hurricane won the NIT championship for their first-year coach, beating Alabama 79-60 Thursday night.
UNION Meridian High's baseball team was hoping for some quality relief inning out of sophomore Tyler Maxwell this season. But if the right-hander continues to show such command of his pitches, there's no doubt he'll fulfill his potential as a top-notch starter. Maxwell tossed a complete game and struck out six batters here Thursday afternoon to lead the Wildcats to a 12-1 win over homestanding Union in a makeup date of an earlier game postponed by rain.
It took the Northeast Lauderdale Lady Trojans four innings before they could get their bats hot on Thursday night against division rival Louisville. The Lady Trojans used a seventh-inning rally to take the 6-5 win over the visiting Lady Wildcats.

NEW ORLEANS Drew Johnson and David Wells combined to shut out homestanding Delgado Community College 4-0 on Saturday afternoon, to held Meridian Community College gain a split of the doubleheader and salvage one game of the three-game Miss-Lou Conference series. The two wins over the weekend push Delgado to 4-2 in Miss-Lou Conference play, while MCC and Bossier Parish are tied for second at 1-2.
Coach Brett Grantham's Trojans of Northeast Lauderdale almost gave new meaning to the phrase, "It ain't over til it's over," Saturday. After jumping out to a 9-2 lead, the Trojans had to use a great defensive play by first baseman Al McQuarters to escape the visiting Oilers of Heidelberg 11-10 for their fourth win of the 1997 campaign.
March 30, 1992
LIVINGSTON, Ala. To call the Livingston University Tigers a hot team would be a major understatement. The Tigers, who started out 1-8, have won 16 of their last 24 games, including a 7-5 victory in the rubber game of a three-game series against Gulf South Conference rival Delta State Sunday. The win improves LU's mark to 17-14, 6-2 in GSC play.
