Southeast outlasts Northeast

By By Jamie Sullivan / staff writer

The Southeast Lauderdale Tigers outlasted their cross-county rival Northeast Tuesday night to take a 10-9 win at Tiger Field.
Even with the ability to win close games, Richardson felt extra innings were not necessary for the win.
Northeast Lauderdale head coach Chris Harper said he feels like his team is to inconsistent.
Another thing that Harper said he feels is wrong with the team is people are not stepping up. "We've got people that aren't stepping up, and they are going to find themselves in the dugout."
The Tigers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after the first inning of play.
In the third inning, Jonathan White and Drew Anderson crossed the plate to cut the Tigers lead to 3-2 on a double by J.R. Smith. Southeast had the bases loaded in the third, but they were not able to score.
Will Matlock had a lead-off double for NEL to start the inning, followed by a walk by Chad Brunson to put runners at first and second base. White reached first on an error to load the bases for Anderson.
Matlock walked to make the score 8-3. After two consecutive RBI doubles by Smith and Jason Pritchett, the Trojans needed one run to tie the game and two runs to take the lead going into the final half of the inning. The Trojans got just what they needed with the help of the Tiger right fielder.
Matlock hit a routine fly ball to the right fielder, but he dropped the ball, allowing Mark Snyder to score and take a 9-8 lead. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Kyle Dawson drew a walk with outs. Jeff Linton doubled to the left field wall, to score Dawson from first base, and go into extra innings.
Tyler Overby reached base on a walk, in the bottom of the eighth inning, and two pitches later he was on second base. Clay McRee was the Tiger hero, as he ripped a ball down the third base line that was deflected off a Trojan defender to score Overby and end the game. The Tigers improve to 9-7 on the year, and they will travel to Heidelberg Thursday afternoon, while the 10-12 Trojans will travel to Northeast Jones on Monday.
