Meridian native, Citadel professor, honored with award

CHARLESTON, S.C. A Meridian native was among a group of students and administrators honored recently for their contributions to the the Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina.
Mark Bebensee, a 1968 graduate of Meridian High School who serves as associate dean of business at the Citadel, received the Palmetto Medal on Saturday.
The award is presented annually to cadets, faculty, staff or alumni by the Citadel Board of Visitors to recognize exceptional performance that reflects well on the Citadel or the state of South Carolina.
Bebensee has been a major player in the Citadel business department's evolution toward national recognition by the accrediting agency, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
He began his career at the military college in 1977 as a teacher and went on to become undergraduate dean, then head of the business administration department.
