QUITMAN One of the area's strongest arms in high school baseball belongs to Quitman High School's Matthew Creighton.
The senior pitcher has helped spark the Panthers to a 12-4 record this season, picking up four of the team's wins off the mound.
The solid start is part of a continuation from last summer where Creighton helped the Meridian Dixie Majors claim the 18-year-old World Series title in North Charleston, S.C.
At least six of his teammates on that World Series title club are now playing baseball at the junior college level.
Playing at the next level is something Creighton is striving for. He is currently 4-1 on the season with an earned run average of one per game. He averages between 10 and 11 strike outs per outing.
The draw for recruiters is Creighton's fastball and his ability to locate it.
Quitman head coach Brett Rigby says Creighton is more than just a power pitcher.
Creighton feels this year's Quitman team can make some noise in the 4A playoffs,
Rigby says Creighton is a big part of that leadership core.
