Eagles enjoy one shot lead
The Meridian Community College golf team is enjoying a one shot lead over Shelton State Community College of Tuscaloosa and John A. Logan of Texas in Spring Fling Golf Tournament at Goose Pond. The Eagles fired a solid round of 293, in the first day of action.
Meridian was led in scoring by Daniel Boles with a 71, Clinton Hales with a 73, Trae Vaughan fired a 74, Brandon Laird rounded out the top four with a 75. Cameron Hunt shot a 76, but the score was not counted in the team score, because you only count the four lowest scores.
Cleveland State CC fired a 296, Cumberland University shot 298, while Rend Lake rounded out with a 299. Mississippi Gulf Coast CC fired a 307, followed by Illinois Valley with 313. Danville CC shot 315, just two strokes ahead of Tennessee Wesleyan at 317. Andrew College had a 319, while Georgia Military Institute brought up the end with a 324.
The tournament will conclude today.
The Eagles will be in action against next Tuesday, when they hold the Rush/MCC Invitational at Northwood Country Club.

EMCC takes two from Hibbing
The East Mississippi Community College baseball team picked up its sixth and seventh win of the season, by knocking off Hibbing Community College of Minnesota Friday at Scooba. The Lions took the decisions 13-3 and 12-1.
Former Southeast Lauderdale standout Andrew Lilly took the win for the Lions. Lilly pitched five innings and allowed six hits and fanned three batters.
The Lions scored three runs in the first inning, five in the second, three in the fourth and two in the fifth inning. The Lions had 13 hits compared to six for Hibbing.
The Lions were led offensively by Josh Snyder, Wade Whitaker, Ben Mason, and J.D. Harbour with two hits apiece. Mason had two RBIs, a home run, and three runs scored. Harbour added double and two RBIs.
In the second game, Prentiss McLaurin took the win for the Lions. McLaurin allowed two hits, while fanning two batters in four innings of work.
The Lions got eight runs in the third inning, one run in the fourth inning, and three runs in the fifth.
Matt Vaughan led the Lions at the plate, as he went 3-for-3, with a double, triple, and a single.
Vaughan had two RBIs and two runs scored. Snyder had two hits and a RBI, while Whitaker had two hits, including a two run home run, and three RBIs. Todd Harcrow was 2-for-3 with a homer and a double and three RBIs. Ashley Chism was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
The Lions will be in action again today, when they travel to Fulton, to battle Itawamba Community College.

Lady Eagles drop two to San Jacinto
The Meridian Community College softball team is in action this week in Florida, as they are competing in the Okaloosa-Walton Community College Invitational.
The Lady Eagles dropped a pair of losses to San Jacinto CC Thursday, by scores of 6-2 and 6-4. Ashlee Frazier and Anne McLean suffered a loss apiece.
The Lady Eagles were led in hitting by Morgan Wright as she went 2-for-3 in the first game. Stephanie Dixon, Ashley Cofield, and Lindsey Stamm were 2-for-4 in the second game. Dreka Shumpert added a triple and Cofield added a double.
The Lady Eagles took a 2-1 decision from St. Louis CC of Florissant Valley.
McLean took the win the win for the Lady Eagles in the third game.
Stamm led the Lady Eagles at the plate, as she went 2-for-3. Dixon added a triples and Kaylora Bingham tossed in a double.
MCC suffered a loss to Okaloosa Walton yesterday, in a 6-0 setback.
Frazier suffered the loss for the Lady Eagles. The Lady Eagles had three hit compared to seven for OWCC.
MCC suffered its fourth tournament loss to Chattanooga State in a 4-1 decision.McLean suffered the loss. The Lady Eagles had five hits in he game. MCC will play again today at 9 a.m.
