The Meridian Museum of Art will host an Artist's Reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday for its current exhibit, "Amie Oliver: Trail Signs."
The reception will feature a gallery talk by Oliver. The event is free and open to the public.
Oliver is a graduate of and former teacher at Mississippi State University who lives and works from her Richmond, Va., studio. She also teaches at Virginia Commonwealth University, the Studio School of the Virginia Museum of Fine Art and the Hand Workshop Art Center.
She has studied at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland, the Cit des Arts Internationale in Paris and the Virginia Center for Creative Arts.
Her artwork has been in more than 150 curated, juried and invitational exhibitions that span the United States, from Maine and New York City to New Orleans and San Francisco.
Recent highlights include solo shows at 1708 Gallery in Richmond; Issac Delgado Gallery in New Orleans; and the University of Maine in Farmington, Maine. She was selected as a U.S.I.A. International Art in Embassies Program Artist for the American Embassy in Ankara, Turkey.
About the exhibit
The works were created while Oliver was in residency at the Oberpfalzer Kunstlerhaus in Schwandorf, Germany, through a fellowship program of the Virginia Center for Creative Arts.
Other artists in exhibit
The exhibit also includes work by three of Amie Oliver's instructors at Mississippi State University Jack Bartlett, Michael Dorsey and DeAnna Douglas.
Douglas is an associate professor of art at the University of Southern Mississippi, Dorsey is dean of the School of Art at East Carolina University and Bartlett has only recently retired as professor of art at Mississippi State University.
Saturday will be the last day of the "Amie Oliver: Trail Signs" exhibit, which will close immediately after the reception. Anyone who cannot attend the reception and wishes to see the show can visit during the week.
The Meridian Museum of Art is at 628 25th Avenue, and is open 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday. Admission is free. For more information about the Museum or the reception, call 693-1501.
