MYSO Ballers take tourney title
The Meridian Youth Soccer Organization's under 19 Ballers' won the Clinton Spring Classic held this past weekend.
The Ballers took a 6-0 win over Southwest Jackson, tied Madison 1-1, tied Pascagoula 2-2, defeated Northwest Rankin 1-0, and beat Brandon 3-1.
The Ballers will be on the road to battle Brandon this weekend.

Frazier, Polizzis win Briarwood event
The team of George Polizzi, Tony Polizzi and Willie Frazier fired a second-day total of 64 on Sunday to hold off the late charge of Ron Posey, Pam Posey and Mac Barnes to win the Early Bird Three-Person Scramble with a two-day total of 122.

Polizzi, Polizzi and Frazier took a two-stroke lead over the second place team on Saturday with a 58. The team of Posey, Posey and Barnes carded a 60 on Saturday and a 63 on Sunday for a two-day total of 123.
The team of Randy Walden, Jason Ling and Kevin Rutledge tied for third with the team of Aaron Davidson, Eddie Davidson and Scotty Peek with two-day totals of 124.

Soap Box Derby meeting set
An organizational meeting for those interested in participating in an upcoming Soap Box Derby in Meridian is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday at H&H Flooring and Specialty at 319 Hawkins Cross Road.

UMass no-hits USM Lady Eagles
COLUMBUS, Ga. The University of Southern Miss fast-pitch softball team went hitless against No. 25 Massachusetts on Sunday in the NFCA Leadoff Classic.
Kaila Holtz gave up only one walk and struck out six on the way to the no-hitter for the Minutewomen.
USM falls to 5-6 on the year and will host Oakland (Mich.) today in a doubleheader at Timberton Park beginning at 5 p.m.

MUW Blues sweep Freed-Hardeman
HENDERSON, Tenn. The Mississippi University for Women softball squad swept a par of games from Freed-Hardeman by identical 4-0 scores on Saturday.
Lauren Arnold (1-0) picked up the win in the first game, while freshman Christine Palmer (1-1) earned the victory in the nightcap for the 6-2 Blues.
MUW entertains Christian Brothers in a doubleheader today at 3:30 p.m. in the first home games of the season for the Blues.

Lady Bulldogs take sixth-place finish
GAINESVILLE, Fla. The Mississippi State women's golf team finished tied for sixth place at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational. The Lady Bulldogs posted rounds of 301, 308 and 321 for a score of 930.
Senior Anna Gertson finished in a five-way tie for second lace with an 11-over par score of 221. Host Florida won the tournament with a score of 900.
The MSU women's golf team will travel to New Orleans on March 4-5 to take part in the Green Wave Classic.

SEC women's tourney tips off Thursday
NASHVILLE, Tenn. Tennessee, LSU, Vanderbilt and South Carolina all received first round byes for the 2002 SEC Women's Basketball Tournament.
The tourney opens at noon on Thursday when Alabama and Georgia square off. Ole Miss and Arkansas play at 2:15 p.m., while Mississippi State and Kentucky play at 6 p.m. and Florida and Auburn meet at 8 p.m. All games will be played at Vanderbilt University's Gaylord Entertainment Center.
Top-seeded Tennessee takes on the Alabama-Georgia winner at noon on Friday, while No. 2 seed South Carolina faces the Ole Miss-Arkansas winner at 2:15 p.m.
The MSU-Kentucky winner faces LSU at 6 p.m. on Friday, while Vanderbilt takes on the Florida-Auburn game at 8:15 p.m.
The semifinals are set for 6 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, with the finals scheduled for 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Times change for two MSU road games
The starting time for MSU's Tuesday game with Louisiana Tech at Ruston, La., today has been moved to 4 p.m., while Wednesday's game at Louisiana-Monroe has been moved up to 3 p.m.
The Bulldogs play host to a three-game set with Jacksonville (Ala.) State this weekend. The teams play at 4 p.m. on Friday, 2 p.m. on Saturday and 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
MSU's 6-6 tie with Ohio State on Sunday in the final day of the national Bank of Commerce Classic was the first time the Bulldogs have finished a game deadlocked since 1973.

MSU-South Carolina tip-off moved
The tip-off time for Saturday's Mississippi State-South Carolina men's basketball game in Columbia, S.C., has been moved top 1 p.m. at the Frank McGuire Arena.
The MSU-USC contest will now be featured as the first half of Jefferson-Pilot Sports' SEC basketball doubleheader telecast, followed by Georgia-Tennessee at 3 p.m.
Entering Wednesday's regular-season home finale against Arkansas with a 21-7 overall record and 8-6 SEC mark, the Bulldogs' regular-season ending game at South Carolina will mark their third consecutive television appearance and 12th overall on the season.
