Cougars sweep Enterprise

The Newton County Cougars opened the 2002 baseball season by sweeping a pair of games from visiting Enterprise High on Saturday afternoon in Decatur.
The Cougars won game one 13-5. They then got a pair of three-run innings in the second game to complete the sweep with a 10-7 victory.
In game one, the Cougars erased a 1-0 deficit with seven runs in the second. They later added three each in the fourth and fifth to finish with 13 runs off nine hits.
Robby Carey had three hits and drove in three runs to pace the Cougars. Adam Bout had two hits and drove in three while Jonathan Walker and Matthew Boggan knocked in two RBIs each. Ryan Loper had two hits.
Kelly Jimmerson led Enterprise with two hits, a triple and a double. Allen Hagwood had a double.
Mylan Anderson went two innings in relief to gain the win. Colby Amis pitched three innings to earn the save. Jimmerson took the loss for Enterprise.
In game two, Quitman overcame a 3-2 deficit with three runs in the third. They added two in fourth to go up 5-3. It was 7-3 after five.
Hagwood had three hits to lead Enterprise while Don Moore had two. Anthony Rowson belted a home run for the Bulldogs and Hagwood had a double.
Robby Carey drove in two runs off two hits as did Adam Bout. Both players had a double. Boggan and Anderson each had doubles.
Quitman 12
Heidelberg 0
Quitman whipped Heidelberg 12-0 in the Wayne County Baseball Tournament on Saturday.
The Panthers used a nine-run second inning to take control in their season opener. Quitman finished with 12 runs off 12 hits.
Blake Pippin tossed a one-hitter and struck out four to gain the win in four innings pitched. Lamarcus Anderson finished up with the save.
Anderson was the top hitter with two hits, one a double, with two RBIs. Pippin had two hits with a double while Auston Edwards had two hits with a double.
Dustin Hambrick had two hits and Jonathan Russell slugged a solo home run.
Greene County 5
Quitman 0
Greene County got a complete game shutout to beat Quitman 5-0 in the Panthers' second game of the Wayne County Tournament.
The loss drops Quitman to 1-1 on the season.
Mills took the win for Greene County allowing just two hits in seven innings. He fanned two.
Matthew Creighton took the loss for Quitman. He went three innings. Jonathan Russell went the last four.
Quitman returns to action on Monday against Columbia in the Laurel High Tournament.
Morton 4
Lake 3
Morton seven hits, compared to three for Lake to knock them off 4-3.
Lake dropped to 0-1, while Morton improved to 1-0 on the season.
Gary Parker took the win for Morton, as he allowed only three hits, while Derrick Watkins suffered the loss for the Hornets.
Jason McGee went 1-2, with a double and two runs scored for Lake. Brandon Burrus was 1-2 with one RBI.
Morton was lead in hitting by Cody Phillips and Chad Ray with a double apiece.
Multiple hitters for Morton were Ray with 2, and Lee Fairchilds with 2.
Lake 3
Sebastopol 1
Lake's Brandon Burrus took charge of Sebastopol, when he fanned 12 batters to take a 3-1 decision.
Eric Madden suffered the loss for Sebastopol.
Multiple hitters for the Hornets were Bryan Williamson with 2, and Terrell Ricks with 2 hits.
Lake improved to 2-1, while Sebastopol dropped to 0-2.
Lake 14
Scott Central 4
The Lake Hornets got 14 runs off of 10 hits, to pace themselves past the Scott Central Rebels.
Jason McGee picked up the win, while Matthew White suffered the loss.
Lake's hitters included Brandon Burrus with a single, double, and four scored runs. Bryan Williamson one double and three RBI's. Terell Ricks with a single, double, and two RBI's. Eric Watkins with a single, and a double.
Scott Central's hitters included Matthew White with two singles, Dan McClendon with a double, and Kyle Brantley with a double.
The Hornets improved to 2-1, while the Rebels fell to 0-3 on the season.
