Meridian Community College signed its first two members of the new women's soccer team on Tuesday afternoon at the MCC Damon Fitness Center.
Northeast Lauderdale seniors Katie Bergin and Lisa Needler signed to play soccer for the newly-formed Lady Eagles.
Bergin played right outside midfield for the Lady Trojans and had 28 assists and 8 goals on the season. She was named first team all-district for the second year in a row and was also second team all-district one year.
Needler played right fullback for Northeast and was a big part of a Lady Trojan defense that only allowed nine goals all season. She also was named first team all-district.
The Lady Trojans went 11-2 on the season and fell just short in a close game with George County in the second round of the playoffs.
The coach for the new program has not yet been hired, but the search has begun for the person that will lead the new team.
