Heidelberg, West get first-round byes

HEIDELBERG The West Lauderdale girls and the Heidelberg High School boys were awarded first-round byes in the Division 5-3A Tournament set to begin on Monday.
The seven-team event has three games set for Monday, three for Tuesday, four for Thursday and two for Friday.
The top two boys and top two girls teams will advanced to the first round of South State.
The action begins with two boys games on Monday and one girls game.
The Philadelphia and Heidelberg boys play at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, followed by the Southeast Lauderdale and Newton County girls at 6 p.m. and the West Lauderdale and Southeast Lauderdale boys at 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday's games have the Choctaw Central and Carthage girls playing at 4:30 p.m, the Newton County and Choctaw Central boys facing off at 6 p.m. and the Heidelberg and Philadelphia boys tipping off at 7:30 p.m.
The West Lauderdale girls face the SEL-Newton County winner at 7 p.m. on Thursday, while the Heidelberg boys face the Choctaw Central-Newton County winner at 8:30 p.m.
