Meridian police officer dies at Newton County home

Keith "Bobby" Brooks, 37, an officer of four years with the Meridian Police Department, died Thursday night at his home north of Collinsville in Newton County.
The Newton County Sheriff's Department is handling the investigation of Brooks' death. Sheriff Jackie Knight said that Brooks' death is being ascribed to natural causes pending the results of an autopsy.
No foul play is suspected, he said.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete Friday. Detective Deano Harper, spokesman for the Meridian Police Department, said that Brooks likely will receive a departmental funeral service with full honors.
