The boys' basketball teams from Newton County Academy and Sylva-Bay Academy, along with the girls' teams from Central Academy and Heidelberg Academy kept their seasons alive for at least another week with first-round wins in the Academy 3-A Tournament Tuesday at Macon.
Play resumes Friday with semifinal action. All remaining teams in the tournament will advance to next week's Central Region Tournament at DeKalb.
Newton Acad. boys 67

The Newton County Academy Generals used a balanced scoring attack to end Central Academy's season in the Academy 3-A Tournament at Macon.
NCA, 12-13, got 20 points from Wil Bean, 19 from Jonathan Moore, 14 from Bud Loper, and 11 from Chris Bounds.
Craig Giesbrecht led Central, which finished its season at 1-25, with a game-high 39 points.
NCA will advance to the semifinals where the Generals will play second-seeded Wayne Academy on Friday.
Heidelberg Aca. 59

Heidelberg's Lady Rebels beat the Lady Generals by 20 points to end NCA's season with a 5-21 mark in first-round play in the Academy 3-A Tournament at Macon.
Heidelberg got 25 points from Ashley McInnis, 12 from Katie Barnett, and 11 from Suzanne Lightsey.
NCA got 12 points from Casey McMahan, 10 from Lindsey Sessions, and nine from Andi Chesney.
Sylva-Bay boys 45

The Saints advanced to a semifinal date with top-seeded Heidelberg Academy after ending the Rams' year on Tuesday in the Academy 3-A Tournament at Macon.
Sylva-Bay got 20 points from Tyson Brown and 12 from Nathan Hayes.
Kemper, which finished 4-19, got 16 points from Justin Wiggins and 14 from Adam Davis.

Sylva-Bay 26
The Lady Vikings earned a semifinal date with second-seeded Wayne Academy on Friday thanks to their 23-point win over Sylva-Bay.
In improving to 15-17, Central got 16 points from Meagan Stokes, 12 from Carrie Coker, and 11 from Leslie Hancock.
Sylva-Bay was led by Amber Carlisle's eight points in its final game of the season.
Noxapater boys 53
Nanih Waiya 52
Noxapater got the one-point win to edge the Warriors at Nanih Waiya.
Noxapater was led by Jonathan Hunter with 19 points while Adam Forsman chipped in 14.
Nanih Waiya got 23 from Brent Blackwell and 14 from David Frey.
Noxapater led 27-25 at the half. It was 40-39 Noxapater after three quarters. Both teams scored 13 points in the fourth quarter.

The Nanih Waiya Lady Warriors moved to 18-11 on the season by beating Noxapater by five points at Nanih Waiya.
Courtnee Graham fired in 17 points and Christy Hickman added 12 for the Lady Warriors.
Noxapater was paced by Deidra Triplett's game-high 19 points. Stephanie Blankenship added 15 and Crystal Hunter had 12.
Noxapater led 15-12 after one quarter, but Nanih Waiya came back with a 12-7 second quarter to go up 24-22. It was 39-34 in favor of Nanih Waiya after three quarters.
