Motivational speaker Clayton King is scheduled to appear at a youth rally and at area schools the first week of February.
King, 29, has a syndicated radio program and is founder of Crossroads Summer Camps and the Crossroads Worldwide missionary organization.
The Beta Clubs of Union, Newton County, Philadelphia, Neshoba Central, Carthage and Nanih Waiya high schools are sponsoring King's appearances which will end with a rally at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 6 at Neshoba County Coliseum in Philadelphia.
Sandra Winstead, a math teacher and Beta Club sponsor at Union High School, arranged King's visit. She saw him speak at a statewide Beta Club convention nearly a year ago.
Winstead has informed all of the Beta Clubs in the state about King's youth rally.
There is no admission for the rally, but a love offering will be taken to benefit King's organization which sends missions to India, China and the Himalayas.
Winstead said the Beta Clubs at each of the schools where King will be speaking paid $600 each to cover his speaking fee. Drug education funds at Union High School were used to cover his travel expenses.
King travels more than 270 days each year, speaking to more than 200,000 people at schools, retreats, churches and rallies. The goal of his ministry is to motivate young people to do their best in life.
Winstead said King is different from most motivational speakers students hear because he professes that he hasn't been a drinker or drug user and that he abstained from sex until he was married.
Winstead said King's message focuses on self-confidence and standing up for what is right.
King's syndicated radio program, "Clayton King Live," airs Sunday nights in more than 60 cities. He lives in Boiling Springs, N.C., with his wife, Charie. They are members of Christ Covenant Church, where King is in elder training.
