The West Lauderdale boys' soccer team defeated a very talented 14-1 North Forrest team Tuesday night 7-0 at Collinsville.
The Knights, Class 1A-2A-3A state runner-up a year ago, won their first game of the playoffs with no difficulties.
The Knights scored soon and often in the match. West Lauderdale's Josh Murphey scored the first goal with less than six minutes being played in the game. Murphey had four goals and one assist to help advance the Knights.
West Lauderdale senior Will Moseley made scoring all but impossible for the over-matched Eagles.
Murphey found the goal for the second time with 20 minutes remaining in the half. Murphey worked the ball from midfield before his kick was true. Eight minutes later Murphy once again proved to be too much for the Eagle defense to handle as he scored the final goal of the half.
West Lauderdale entered the break with a comfortable 3-0 lead.
C.J Fountain opened up the scoring in the second half with a goal with less than two minutes being played. Fountain's efforts came after three of his shots bounced off the inside bar of the goal.
The intense hustle and athletic ability of the Knights continued to work on the visiting Eagles. With 10 minutes being played in the half, Murphey scored his final goal on impressive ball movement and a true kick on the goal. The Knights lead the Eagles 5-0 with 30 minutes remaining.
Zack Chisolm found the goal on an assist from Fountain with 17 minutes remaining increasing the West Lauderdale lead to 6-0.
The Knights' last goal was scored by Clay Logan who was assisted by Murphy.
West Lauderdale will see action Saturday against Natchez Cathedral.
