The Quitman Panthers took an 89-75 win over Newton in Tuesday's high school boys' basketball action.
Steve Hampton's Panthers led 47-33 at halftime. Marcus McCormick led Quitman, 9-12, with 24 points. Roderick Laphand tossed in 14, while Jason Pearson and Lorenzo White both had 12.
Bobby Lindsey led Newton, 13-12, with 20 points. Coshune Bingham scored 18 and David Edwards tossed in seven.
Lake girls 55
Forest 41
The Class 1A defending state champion Lady Hornets jumped out to a 28-9 first half lead in beating Forest at Lake.
Lake, 22-3, got 13 points apiece from Kim Cox and Valerie Harris. Kimyatta Viverette tossed in 11.
Forest, 13-10, got 21 points from Ebone'e Leverette and 11 from Photasha Derrick.
Neshoba boys 82
Philadelphia 75
The Rockets used the seven-point homefloor win to take the season's series three games to two.
Neshoba Central led 61-43 through three quarters only to have the Tornadoes hit seven 3-pointers in the final period.
Tawon Walker scored 26 points and Desmond Jones had 24 to lead Neshoba, 19-7. Tavares Walker tossed in 18 points.
Philadelphia got 21 points from Mandrako Jackson.
Union boys 90
Edinburg 58
The Yellowjackets took a 52-26 lead into halftime of their Division 6-1A win over Edinburg at Union.
In improving to 15-9 overall and 9-1 in 6-1A, the Jackets got 30 points from Derrick Harris, 17 from Prentiss Evans, 10 from Douglas Wansley, and eight from Anthony Johnson.
Newton girls 61
Quitman 48
The 21-4 Lady Tigers of Newton got 20 points from Tonya Jordan and 16 from Lenora Gray in taking the win at Quitman.
Newton led 31-17 at halftime.
Quitman, 4-18, got 12 points apiece from Kemonica McGee and Shalanda Carter and eight from Shaquilla Mack.
Union girls 65
Edinburg 18
The Lady Jackets improved to 11-12 with the Division 6-1A rout at Union. The Union girls led 27-7 at halftime.
Megan Tidwell led Union with 14 points. Lauren White tossed in 13 and LaSaundra Harrison scored nine.
Edinburg's leading scorer had just three points as the Lady Eagles fell to 0-18.
Patrician girls 74
Jackson (Ala.) 22
The Lady Saints raced to a 45-14 halftime lead in improving to 14-4 overall and 8-0 in area play. Patrician will play the Marengo-Jackson winner Friday at 3 p.m. in the area tournament at Sumter Academy.
Scott Central girls 48
Kemper County 40
The Lady Rebels jumped out to a 26-17 halftime lead in taking the Division 5-2A win at Scott Central.
Kattie Nickson led Scott, 17-12, with 20 points. Britney Burks tossed in 14, while Marquita Anderson and Elyse Clay had seven points apiece.
Kemper County, 7-16, got 10 points from Candra McCoy and nine from Tamician Davis.
Enterprise boys 82
Bassfield 76
The Bulldogs outscored the Yellowjackets 45-40 in the second half to take the Division 7-2A win at Enterprise.
The Bulldogs, who came in averaging 58 points per game, got 32 points from Cory Boggan, 21 from Mitchell Burns, 12 from Anthony Johnson, and nine from Don Moore.
Bassfield was led by Marcus Fairley with 26 points. Fairley hit six 3-pointers. Derrick Graves added 19 points.
Patrician boys 45
Jackson (Ala.) 29
Jordan May led the Saints with 15 points as they improved to 15-6 with the win at Jackson. Patrician will play Marengo Friday at 4:30 p.m. in the area tournament at Sumter Academy.
Enterprise girls 56
Bassfield 33
Enterprise outscored Bassfield 27-13 in the second half of its Division 7-2A win at Enterprise.
Enterprise, 7-20, got 17 points from Teela McBride, 16 from Kaccy Jimmerson, and seven from Chasity Stingley.
Bassfield got 12 points from Jessica Thompson.
Heidelberg boys 84
Carthage 33
The Oilers crushed Carthage in Division 5-3A action at Heidelberg. The Oilers led 36-19 at halftime.
Heidelberg, 21-5, got 14 points from Jesse Jones, 13 from Derrick Turner, and 12 each from Marvin McDonald and Billy Wright.
Carthage got 13 points from Wallace Alexander.
Heidelberg girls 79

The Lady Oilers placed four players in double figures in taking the Division 5-3A win at Heidelberg. Sophomore Princess Bender scored 14 points, Latoya Wallace had 13 and Jessica Yates and Cotina Fowler both had 12. Heidelberg improved to 15-11.
Kemper girls 28
Lamar 25
The Lady Raiders threw a scare in the Academy 3-A champions in Monday's contest in Meridian. Kemper led 7-4 after one quarter and took a 19-9 lead into halftime. However, Lamar rallied to within 20-16 to start the fourth quarter.
Lamar, 5-20, got eight points apiece from Lizzie Williams and April Rodgers and seven from Myleia Shirley.
Oak Hill 57
Central girls 29
Oak Hill jumped out to a 16-3 first quarter lead in taking Monday's game at West Point.
Central, 13-17, got 13 points from Megan Stokes and nine from Leslie Hancock.
Oak Hill, 20-8, was led by Berkley Warnick's 14 points.
Marengo boys 56
Sumter 51
The Marengo Academy boys got 18 points from Brian Hasty and 17 from Eric Wilkinson in beating Sumter on Monday.
Shane Martin led Sumter with 13 points. Tucker Spidle and J.D. Todd both had 11.
Oak Hill 62
Central boys 28
The Vikings dropped to 1-23 with Monday's loss at West Point. Central trailed 35-11 at halftime.
Tyler Huerkamp had seven points from Central. Scott Hodges led Oak Hill with 15 points.
