The streets of downtown Meridian will once again be hopping Friday night when a crowd of more than 2,000 is expected to attend the 2nd Annual Little Mardi Gras block party.
Live entertainment and plenty of New Orleans-style food and drinks will be found at Dumont Plaza on 22nd Avenue across from Weidmann's beginning 6 p.m. Friday.
Chappell said 2,000 people attended last year's party and more are expected Friday. This year a stage will be set up on Fifth Street, freeing additional space for people to gather in the plaza.
Louisiana native Rosie Ledet, "The Zydeco Sweetheart," will headline this year's entertainment at the block party. Last year, Ledet was the opening act for the celebration.
Local favorite Kabana will lead the night of entertainment starting at 6 p.m.
The event is free. It is sponsored by the Lauderdale County Tourism Bureau and Main Street Meridian, and supported by area merchants and entertainers
