Friday will be a busy and unusual day for the Meridian Symphony Orchestra.
The Orchestra usually plays on Saturday evenings at McCain Hall on the campus of Meridian Community College. But in its third outing of the season, the MSO will be performing on Friday. And, it will put on three concerts instead of one.
Classrooms
The MSO won't be playing for its usual audiences in the first two concerts. Instead, area fourth grade students will be in attendance at no charge for a special introduction to symphony music. The third concert, which is opened to the public, starts at 7:30 p.m.
The Symphony League and others are picking up the tab to bring the entire orchestra in for the first two concerts. The children will receive a special handbook Monday which explains symphony music and how it is organized.

The third concert will be similar in that it is tailored to first-timers at a MSO concert. But there will also be pieces for the veteran concert-goer as well.
The concerts will feature storyteller Sarah Meyer-Mutziger, who with help of a spider puppet, will explain the different aspects of symphony music and the makeup of an orchestra.
Why a spider puppet?
The MSO is under the direction of Dr. Claire Fox Hillard. The program will include selections by Wagner, Copland, Rossini, Grofe, Villa-Lobos, Strauss, Gershwin and Sousa.
