Federal judges accept remap role

Count on a three-judge federal panel to finish what the Mississippi Legislature started. The panel has rightly assumed jurisdiction over Mississippi's congressional redistricting process and, hopefully, whatever decision its members render will be much more balanced than the heinous plan produced by a Hinds County Chancery Court.
Republicans seem energized that their request for federal judges to write a new plan will get the consideration for which they hoped. Democrats are still trying to pull the Hinds County chancellor's plan through the bureaucratic tangle known as the U.S. Department of Justice.
Suffice it to say the judges will produce a plan under which congressional elections can proceed as scheduled.
