DuBose named city police chief

By Staff
Jan. 21, 2002
Benny DuBose, a veteran law enforcement officer who has headed the Meridian Police Department for the past six months in an interim capacity, was officially named today to the position of police chief. The announcement was made at a morning press conference by Mayor John Robert Smith.
Also, Smith named city engineer Monty Jackson to head the Public Works Department, where a vacancy also existed. Jackson will be assisted by Tommy Irby, who will be in charge of the Maintenance Division, and Hugh Smith, who heads the Water Division of Public Works.
DuBose, who served as assistant chief, will officially assume command of a city police department that has been without a chief since the retirement of former chief Gregg Lewis in July 2001.
