Cochran instrumental in NAS Meridian projects

He rarely gets all of the credit he deserves, but Mississippi's senior U.S. Senator, Thad Cochran, pulled off a significant coup of local interest when he successfully secured $4 million in federal funding for electrical improvements along runways at NAS Meridian.
The need for these improvements was very real, but military officials had at first been told their request could not be met due to tight federal finances. Cochran stepped in personally and used his influence on the Senate Appropriations Committee to get the money.
