Tickets sales for Lamar Raider football may very well increase beginning today. That's because the other shoe dropped Wednesday when the school officially introduced Meridian High Athletic Director Mac Barnes as its new head football coach, putting to rest any speculation as to where Barnes might end up. Barnes announced his retirement from the public school system last week.
CLINTON Jeremy Ruffin and Mario Hill didn't get a chance to play for a state championship while suiting up for the Meridian High School football team. But their hard work didn't go unnoticed. Ruffin and Hill, starting teammates for the Wildcats for the past three seasons, will suit up at least one more time together when the pair represents MHS in the Mississippi/Alabama Shrine Classic all-star football game.

Stacie Lockhart put back a missed free throw with four seconds remaining to score two points and give West Lauderdale a 41-40 win at Clarkdale Friday night.
Southeast Lauderdale wore the glass slipper of the Sam Dale Tournament for just one day, and Enterprise's Bulldogs couldn't quite get it to fit. Both teams saw their chances of reaching this year's tournament finals as the Cinderella team come to an end Friday. Kemper County knocked off Southeast Lauderdale 61-36, while Forest used a late defensive stand to stop Enterprise, 53-45.

COLLINSVILLE When West Lauderdale head coach Steve Hull was mulling over his game plan for Northeast Jones, he knew there was one player that he had to keep his eyes on. The only problem was the Knights didn't. Fred Epting, the Tigers' leading scorer on the season, tore up the nets with 22 points against the Knights, leading his Northeast Jones team to a 58-48 win.
When Antonio McDyess limps, he isn't himself. And when McDyess isn't himself, the Quitman Panthers become an average basketball team. In the end the Meridian Wildcats took advantage of a team that played the better part of Friday night as a McDyess-less outfit and defeated the Panthers for the first time in three tries this season, a 72-58 victory at Meridian High school.
