Navy Secretary England in public forum Monday

By Staff
Jan. 13, 2002
Navy Secretary Gordon R. England will tour NAS Meridian and host a public forum on Monday at the invitation of U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering.
The visit will include points on the base as England, who was sworn in about eight months ago, makes his first trip to NAS Meridian. A public forum has been scheduled at 4:30 p.m. at Union Station, where England is expected to make comments on the importance of Meridian's role in the nation's national security structure.
Lamar McDonald, head of the Navy Meridian Team that successfully fought to keep the base open during three rounds of military base closures in the 1990s, invited area residents to attend the forum.
