MCC, Shelton to play two

By By Jeff Byrd/staff writer
Jan. 12, 2002
The old Ernie Banks adage "Let's play two," will apply to the basketball court tonight at the Ivy Sports Center.
Visiting Shelton State Community College and Meridian Community College will "play" two official women's games on Saturday. The first is actually a completion of a game suspended under tragic circumstances on Nov. 15 at Shelton State in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The aunt of one the Shelton State players suffered a fatal heart attack near the end of the game. Play was halted and the game was suspended with 44 seconds left with Shelton State up 86-83.
The game will resume at that point. The inbound will start at 6 p.m.
One difference is that the location is now the Ivy Sports Center. The game officials will also be different. What doesn't change is the foul situation.
And what if the game goes into overtime?
Shelton State is the only team to mount a serious challenge to the Lady Eagles this season.
The MCC coach added that the complexion of the suspended game may have played a part in the death of the 47-year-old woman.
Following the completion of the regularly scheduled game, the MCC men will take on Shelton State at 8 p.m. The Eagles' game with Shelton on Nov. 15 in Tuscaloosa, was cancelled. MCC is 8-8 on the year following an 89-83 loss to East Mississippi on Thursday night in Scooba.
