The Question …
Who won the last men's hoops meeting between Ole Miss and State?

When the final horn sounded, Meridian High head coach Ernie Watson didn't mince words. The Wildcats' 78-68 upset of the fifth-ranked Hattiesburg Tigers was huge. Although relieved may have been a good way to describe Watson's demeanor afterward, surprised at how the game panned out certainly was not.
Coming into Tuesday's contest with Alabama Southern, the MCC men were sporting a 3-13 record. Tuesday night, they not only got the chemistry, they also found the hot had of former Meridian High standout Sammie Cole, Jr. Cole blazed the nets for 18 first half points, helping the Eagles to an easy 96-74 win.
Sara Denham recorded her seventh shutout of the season as the Meridian Lady Wildcats defeated No. 3 Madison Central 2-0 Tuesday in prep soccer. After a scoreless first half of play, No. 10 Meridian found its offense in the form of Erin Brown and Catherine Bryan. Both girls scored, helping the Lady Wildcats improve to 10-2.

PHILADELPHIA Unfortunately for the West Lauderdale girls' basketball team, they couldn't just multiply the third quarter by four and make that their final score. In the opening round of the Neshoba Central Tournament Thursday night, the Lady Knights scored 17 points in the third frame, but managed only 15 for the rest of the game, as they came up short against the host Lady Rockets, 42-32.
John Darby tossed in a team-high 20 points and Ken Evans threw in 17 more as the Rebels of Scott Central outlasted the Northeast Trojans for an exciting 80-79 overtime victory Thursday.

In and out. A promising comeback victory had turned into defeat as a basketball jiggled around the rim and popped out. So it was for Meridian Community College on Thursday night, as a feisty group of Eagles who refused to die were eliminated by Gulf Coast in such a disappointing manner that the crowded gym's noise level went from boisterous to silent as the home team's luck ran out as it fell to the visitors 75-74.

The Answer …
Ole Miss, 51-48 in Oxford.
Sports Faces …
Brittany Speed
One way to improve your basketball game is to date a star player. It's worked for Enterprise's Brittany Speed, whose boyfriend is Bulldog star Cory Boggan.
Speed also provides a sounding board for Boggan.
She especially likes it when he makes a high-flying dunk.
As for her game, Speed, a sophomore, comes off the bench. She plays wing for the Lady Bulldogs.
