Wayne County gets 21st win of season

WAYNESBORO The No. 3 ranked Wayne County Lady War Eagles picked up their 21st win of the year, by defeating Heidelberg 73-66 Tuesday night.
Heidelberg head coach Nedra Jones felt her girls didn't fight all the way through. "We just gave up," Jones said. "We didn't stop the post game."
In boys' action, Dietrack Slater lead the War Eagles past the Oilers 72-56.
The Lady War Eagles jumped out to an early 18-12 lead in the first quarter, and only padded their lead in the second.
Wayne County scored 22 points, compared to 14 by its foe from Heidelberg in the second quarter to sport a 40-26 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, Jones' Lady Oilers hit gold, as they went on a 6-0 run early in the quarter to cut the War Eagle lead to eight points. However, that wasn't where they stopped. The Lady Oilers had a 12-point run late in the third quarter, but they could never overtake the lead.
Wayne County head coach Gina Skelton felt her defense had a major break down in the final two periods.
The Lady Oilers put up 22 points in the fourth quarter, but the Lady War Eagles responded with 22 points as well.
The Lady War Eagles were led in scoring by Natalie Jordan with 22, Ratassia Worsham with 16, Nicole Jordan with 14, and Carla Bartee added 12 points.
Heidelberg was led in scoring by Jessica Yates with 18, Catina Fowler with 15, and Moneshia Cooley added 12 points.
The 21-1 Lady War Eagles will be in action again on Friday, when the Lady Cougars of Northwest Rankin pay a visit to Waynesboro.
The 10-8 Lady Oilers will be in action Friday night, when the Lady Warriors of Choctaw Central come to town for a heated Division 5-3A contest.

The Wayne County War Eagles picked up their 17th win of the season by knocking off Heidelberg 72-56 Tuesday night.
The War Eagles jumped out to an early 17-11 first quarter lead, and never looked back, as they drilled the Oilers in a non-division showdown.
Wayne County tossed in 21 more points in the second quarter to take a 38-27 halftime lead.
Williams also had a sour taste in his mouth about the way the officials ran the ball game.
Even though there were three officials, the game was stopped twice, due to the fact of the wrong jersey number was reported to the scoring table after a foul.
Jackson refused to comment on the situation at hand.
The Oilers seemed to get things in order in the third quarter, as they outscored Wayne County 18-15, however the War Eagles tossed in 19 points in the final period to clinch the win.
The 17-1 War Eagles were led in scoring by Dietrack Slater with 33, Kacey Wilson with 14, and Steven ford added 10 points.
The 14-4 Oilers were led in scoring by Derrick Turner with 21, and Fred Stephens added 15 points.
Wayne County will be in action again Friday night, when they host Northwest Rankin.
The Oilers will be in action on Friday as well, when they host Choctaw Central.
