Trojans pound Stringer

ENTERPRISE Both Northeast Lauderdale basketball teams claimed victory Thursday night in the first round of the Enterprise High School Round-Robin Tournament.
The Trojans bounced past Stringer 80-47, while the Northeast girls defeated Stringer 70-39. In other games, the Southeast Lauderdale boys took a 62-50 win over Enterprise, while the Lady Tigers bounced past the Enterprise girls 62-36.
The action continues tonight starting at 4 p.m. when the Northeast girls take on Southeast. The Southeast and Northeast boys tangle at 5:30, followed by double-header between Enterprise and Stringer with the girls playing at 7 p.m., and the boys tipping off at 8:30.
Northeast 80
Stringer 47
Northeast convincingly defeated Stringer. The 10-9 Trojans controlled the ball game from start-to-finish. Dekenno Winston scored 21 points in the first period. Winston's efforts helped Northeast outscored Stringer 22-6 in the first period. Stringer had increasing problems controlling the paint in the second peroid. The rebounding and scoring was dominated by the Trojans through out. Kalen White and Jamel Martin led the Trojans in scoring in the second period as they led 51-19.
Stringer had a 17-13 scoring edge in the third quarter.
Northeast offense was out scored by Stringer in the third period, 17-13.
The Northeast defense held Stringer to 11 points in the final period while the Trojans scored 17.
Northeast girls 70

The Northeast girls upped their record to 10-9 with a win over Stringer.
The Lady Trojans jumped out to a 22-6 lead during the first period, and outpointed the Lady Red Devils 22-8 during the second stanza to hold a 44-14 halftime lead.
Both teams scored 10 points in the third quarter. The Lady Trojans put it away in the final stanza, outscoring 16-15 in the final eight minutes of play.
Quin Jackson scored 25 points to lead Northeast, while Crystal Hopson added 19 points.
Southeast boys 62
Enterprise 50
Southeast escaped the Bulldogs in a close game for their third victory of the season.
Mitchell Burns led the Bulldogs in scoring for the first period of play with seven points. Ben Reed had a very impressive half defensively and offensively for Southeast. Reed scored eight points in the first period. The Bulldogs led at the end of the first period 18-13.
Enterprise's Cory Boggan's aggressive play on defense and scoring helped the maintain its five-point lead going into the half. Boggan scored seven points in the period and controlled the boards for Enterprise. The score at the break was 32-28.
Southeast came out to the half with a full court press. Windham Campbell scored back-to-back baskets for Southeast to start the period. Campbell scored seven points in the period. Mitchell Burns and Cory Boggan combined for a nine-point effort but it would not be enough for the Bulldogs. At the break, Southeast led 47-43.
Southeast never looked back. Chris Gordon dominated the boards for the Tigers and scored six points during the eight-minute span. Southeast outscored the Bulldogs 15-7 in the fourth period.
Enterprise's record drops to 7-10 while South east is 15-2.
Southeast girls 62
Enterprise 36
Enterprise came out with eight-unanswered points, and Southeast answered with its eight points as the score tied at the break. The Lady Tigers started taking control of the game in the second quarter, however, as they scored 22 points limiting Enterprise to 13. At the break, Southeast led 30-21.
Southeast Lauderdale led 42-29 at the end of the third stanza. They then put the game away by scoring 20 points while holding Enterprise to seven.
Kenita Cooley scored 16 points to lead Southeast, while Teela McBride tossed in 10 points to lead Enterprise. Southeast now stands at 16-3 while Enterprise falls to 6-14.
