IVA MATHIS
Services for Iva Mathis will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church with the Rev. Nick Holden officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Barham Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Mathis, 87, of Meridian, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at Riley Hospital.
Survivors include five sons, Thomas Mathis and his wife, Hollis, Doby Mathis and his wife, Dona, and Sammy Mathis and his wife, Teresa, all of Meridian, R.D. Mathis and his wife, Rosanelle, of Birmingham, Ala., and Richard Mathis and his wife, Barbara, of Poplarville; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edgar Mathis; her mother, Mattie Cockrell; and a sister, Magalee Marcum.
Pallbearers will be Keith, Todd, Stacey, Brian, Clay, Matt, Trent and John Mathis.
Visitation will be today 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home and 30 minutes prior to the service.
AARON A. LOWREY
Retired lieutenant with Mississippi Highway Patrol
LOUISVILLE Services for Aaron A. "Tony" Lowrey will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Tilghman Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Bobby Joe Butler and Keith Dendy officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Lowrey, 45, of Louisville, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, in Noxubee County.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Starkville and the Dancing Rabbit Hunting Club. He was a retired major in the U.S. Army Reserve. Mr. Lowrey graduated from Winston Academy in 1974 and received a degree in physical education and health from Mississippi State University. He was active in the ROTC at Mississippi State University.
After graduation, he pursued his lifelong goal of becoming a trooper with the Mississippi Highway Patrol. He was a physical trainer at the Mississippi Highway Patrol Academy where he trained over 1,000 law enforcement officers.
In 1984, he transferred to the Starkville District Troop G, where he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant second in command. Prior to his retirement, he was active in karate, having received a third degree black belt. In 1991, he received the Outstanding State Employee of the Year award and the Outstanding Young Man of the Year Award. He also received recognition from the Mississippi State Senate. Due to medical illness, he retired in 1992. He was an avid hunter and loved his family and fellow man.
Survivors include his mother, Hilda Null Lowrey of Louisville; a daughter, Sara Marie Lowrey of Madison; a sister, Janice Richardson of Preston; three brothers, Joseph H. Lowrey and Olyn Keith Lowrey of Louisville, and Murray L. Lowrey of Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Aaron Olyn Lowrey, and an uncle, the Rev. James E. Lowrey.
The family requests memorials be made to the Sara Marie Lowrey Educational Fund, Merchants and Farmers Bank, P.O. Box 1047, Ridgeland, MS 39158.
Visitation will be today 5 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

FOREST Services for John Wayne Keen were held Saturday at Lena Baptist Church. Burial was in Lena Cemetery with Ott and Lee Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Keen, 53, of Lena, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at Laird's Hospital in Union.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Keen of Lena; a son, Clayton Keen of Union; four stepsons, Michael James and Teddy James, both of Union, Lee James of Linwood and Alvin James of Meridian; two daughters, Renee Keen Bozeman of Union and Ellen Keen of Collinsville; a stepdaughter, Juanita Tatum of Ackerman; two sisters, Dorothy Munn of Little Rock and Bonnie Ray of Union; and four grandchildren.
