Lauderdale County Supervisors will host a public hearing at 5 p.m. tonight for county residents seeking assistance in buying their first home.
The meeting will take place in the county courthouse boardroom. Supervisor Hank Florey of District 1 said that people should attend if they are interested in receiving financial help.
The Mississippi Home Corp. will provide 22 low income families in Lauderdale County $10,000 grants to use as a down payment or for closing costs when purchasing their first home.
Residents who live in Meridian, Marion and in the county are eligible. Half of the grants will go to residents in Meridian, while the remainder will go to residents in the rest of the county.
Representatives with the Mississippi Home Corp. will be on hand at tonight's meeting to discuss the qualifications for the grant and distribute grant applications.
Florey said low interest rates make this a good time for the grant and to buy a house.
