The March of Dimes…
Kandice's Team' raises more than $7,500
Special to The Star
Dec. 14, 2001
Every year, Jane Collins and "Kandice's Team" join Meridian residents and businesses to help save babies in Mississippi. The team has raised more than $18,000 for the March of Dimes in the past three years.
What is the reason for such devout fund-raising? This story begins on the morning of Feb. 24, 1998, when Jane Collins lost a beautiful, healthy baby for no apparent reason, just six weeks before her first birthday.
The following year, she formed "Kandice's Team" in memory of her daughter and in 1999 they raised more than $3,500. In 2000, they became the top money-raising team in Meridian with more than $7,000.
They were once again the top money-raising team in the 2001 Walk, contributing more than $7,500 to the March of Dimes with the help of Wal-Mart.
The 2002 WalkAmerica will be held Saturday, April 27, at Bonita Lakes. To get involved in Meridian's WalkAmerica, call Christi Swalm at (800) 842-5117 or (601) 362-8945.
