Charges are piling up against a man arrested after a botched robbery attempt at El Cheapos on Fifth Street.
Meridian police were called to the scene shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday and caught the suspect, 22-year-old Henry L. Madison, before he even left the store.
Madison was charged Wednesday with armed robbery and rape in connection with the incident at the store.
Harper said the investigation of the robbery also led to Madison being charged with three counts of auto burglary unrelated to the El Cheapos robbery. The vehicles were broken into over the weekend while they were parked in the garage at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
Harper said Madison was armed, but didn't say what type of weapon was used in the attack.
Madison remained in the Lauderdale County Detention Facility today without no bond.
