A traveling exhibit from the Mississippi Museum of Art displaying photographs taken by Eudora Welty will be on display through Thursday at the main office of AmSouth Bank.
Although Welty was known as one of the South's greatest writers, she also was an accomplished photographer who used her camera to document everyday lives of Mississippians.
These limited edition photographs were acquired by the bank in July 1992. They comprise the Eudora Welty Photograph Portfolio published in 1992 in cooperation with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History.
The photos were recently donated to the Mississippi Museum of Art. Each was signed by the author and depicts the Great Depression's effects on Mississippians during the 1930s.
Welty's photos may be viewed in the lobby of the bank, at 406 22nd Ave., during regular business hours. The Meridian visit is the final stop of a statewide tour.
The photographs will be returned to the museum for inclusion in its permanent collection, in preparation for the launch of the museum's "Eudora Welty's World of the 1930s" exhibition in late March.
