Sartin steps down from MHS post

By By Jeff Byrd/The Meridian Star
Dec. 6, 2001
Meridian High School athletic director Billy Burnham confirmed Wednesday night that head football coach Bill Sartin tendered his resignation earlier that afternoon.
Sartin confirmed the resignation on Thursday morning in his office.
Sartin said he has not accepted another coaching job. In fact, he says he may be looking at getting out of coaching for the time being.
The Wildcats had one of their toughest seasons in several years in 2001, finishing 3-8. The club missed the 5A playoffs for only the fourth time in 21 years. Meridian was coming off a 9-3 season in 2000.
Sartin, a former linemen for Mississippi State University, said his four-year tenure at Meridian was a good one. He finished with an overall record of 26 wins and 21 losses
Burnham said a search will begin to fill the position.
The Meridian athletic director did express sorrow that Sartin is leaving the Wildcat program.
